A heavy house fire in New Tecumseth on Tuesday night is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal.

At 9:18 p.m., fire crews from New Tecumseth Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire on Nunn Crescent in Alliston. Simcoe County paramedics and the Nottawasaga OPP also attended the scene.

"Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a well-involved fire that was extending to neighbouring homes," New Tecumseth Fire Chief Dan Heydon said in an email to Barrie360. "Crews quickly initiated an aggressive offensive attack to contain the fire and prevent further spread. Firefighters also conducted a search of the residence and confirmed that no additional occupants remained inside."

The only occupant of the house safely evacuated the home before emergency crews arrived. They were treated at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation and burns before being brought to Stevenson Memorial Hospital for further medical care.

Fire crews remained on scene to finish extinguishing the blaze, completing overhaul, and investigation activities.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the Office of the Fire Marshal is on scene.
