An Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) device aided police in arresting a suspect related to a possible stolen vehicle in New Tecumseth on Wednesday.

Just after 2 p.m., an officer on patrol on Victoria Street in Alliston received the alert and matched the licence plate to a nearby vehicle. They subsequently followed the vehicle where the male driver exited and was detained by police for investigative purposes.

Police learned the vehicle was registered to the driver, but the plates were reported stolen and didn't belong. That led to the driver's arrest.

The 34-year-old from New Tecumseth was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, driving while suspended, and driving without a permit.

As a result, the licence plates were seized and the man was released on a Form 10 Undertaking. He will appear in a Bradford court at a future date.
