ALPR device helps OPP snare three Midland-area residents, drug charges laid

Three Midland-area residents were arrested and charged by Southern Georgian Bay OPP on Jan. 15 when police got a hit from an automatic licence plate recognition device.

According to police, the licence plate was attached to a car which was stopped by officers in the Mountainview Mall parking lot in Midland.

The three occupants were arrested and taken to the detachment for further investigation.

During the investigation, police said they seized a quantity of purple fentanyl, cocaine, Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia.

A 37-year-old from Tay Township was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Colour coating obscuring interior
  • Entire plate not plainly visible

A 31-year-old from Midland and a 55-year-old from Tiny Township were charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

The suspects were released from custody and are to appear in court Feb. 29.
