Amber Heard’s lawyer says the actress plans to appeal the jury's decision awarding Johnny Depp $15 million in her defamation lawsuit.
Heards’ lawyer Elaine Bredehoft, appeared on “Today” and said her client has “some excellent grounds for an appeal saying:
“A number of things were allowed in this court that should not have been allowed, and it caused the jury to be confused.”
Heard was consistently mocked on social media throughout the six-week trial, which Bredehoft believes impacted the jury.
“There is no way they couldn’t have been influenced by it. It was horrible. It was really, really lopsided."
The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damage, ruling that Heard defamed him when she wrote an op-ed piece for the Washington Post in 2018.
In the article, Heard spoke about being a survivor of domestic abuse but never named Johnny Depp in the report.
Heard was awarded $2 million in damages in her counterclaim that she was defamed by Depp’s lawyer, who called her allegations a hoax.
No official appeal has been filed yet.
