Angus man killed in double fatal Toronto highway crash caused by car travelling in wrong direction

Police say the crash happened on Highway 401 west of Bayview Avenue

A crash involving a wrongway driver claimed two lives on Highway 401 in Toronto on Sunday.

Ontario Provincial Police say a car going in the wrong direction collided with an SUV at around 5:30 a.m. west of Bayview Avenue.

Police say a 35-year-old woman from Mississauga was travelling westbound in the eastbound lane and struck a vehicle being driven by a 53-year-old man from Angus.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say investigators don't know what circumstances led to the car travelling in the wrong direction, including whether snowy weather played a part.

The force is encouraging anyone with information on the crash to come forward.
