Another COVID-19 case in Barrie, two overall amid uptick in local cases

City has seen nearly as many cases in the last ten days as it did the entire month of July

There is another case of COVID-19 in Barrie meaning the city has seen nearly as many cases in the last ten days as it did throughout the entire month of July.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) confirmed two cases of COVID were added to the local caseload on Thursday morning, the one in Barrie as well as one in Bradford.

In the last ten days, August 17 to 27, Barrie has seen 15 cases of COVID-19. There were just three cases confirmed between August 1 and 16, and a total of 16 cases reported throughout the month of July.

The SMDHU’s caseload additions per month, as of Wednesday

By comparison, during that same 10-day period, there were three confirmed in Bradford, two in both Wasaga Beach and Essa Township, and one each in Innisfil, Penetanguishene, Collingwood, and New Tecumseth.

An outbreak at Mill Creek Care Centre in south Barrie continues after the SMDHU reported one worker at the long-term care facility tested positive for the virus.
