Cleared for takeoff: Bachelor party guests rescue sinking plane in Innisfil

The pilot flew in from Ottawa to attend the party
Plane on beach - South Simcoe Police

South Simcoe police responded to an interesting situation in Innisfil over the weekend regarding a bachelor party and a plane.

On Sunday morning around 10:20, police were called about a small plane on a beach in Innisfil Beach Park.

Police say the plane's owner flew in from Ottawa on Friday afternoon to attend a bachelor party.

The 31-year-old pilot docked it overnight and went to bed but was awakened the next morning around 6:30 a.m. by a neighbour who alerted him that the plane was sinking.

"High wind overnight not only unmoored the aircraft but also caused damage," police stated in a release. "Party guests were roused from sleep and jumped into action, entering the water and dragging the aircraft to the beach."

They say no one was injured in the incident.

"The pilot had a mechanic attend to fix the damage, then flew home with quite a story to tell."
