Bad driving catches attention of Barrie cop, impaired and other charges laid against motorist

This guy offered up a host of reasons why Barrie police took notice of his driving as the motorist made a turn onto Fairview Road from Essa Road around 2:30 Friday morning.

"The driver accelerated onto Fairview Road after initially hesitating for an advance green light and in doing so, spun the tires on his car which caused a loud squealing sound. The driver then began to drive in the northbound lanes of Fairview Road while travelling southbound before pulling into a nearby plaza," police said in a news release.

Police say the driver was visibly impaired and was arrested on the spot, then he was taken to police headquarters where he refused to provide a breath sample.

A 22-year-old from Quinte West was charged with the following:

  • Drive motor vehicle – Perform stunt
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Failure to comply with release order (2 counts).

The man's vehicle has been impounded for seven days as a result of the stunt driving charge and refusing to comply with a demand for a breath sample.

He had a bail hearing scheduled for Friday afternoon.
