The City of Barrie, the Canadian Forces Base Borden, the County of Simcoe, Lake Simcoe Regional Airport, and the Downtown Barrie BIA officially announced the return of the Barrie Airshow, presented by Pratt Homes, at a media event this afternoon (Wednesday, May 1).
Speaking at the Sandbox Centre in downtown Barrie overlooking the city’s beautiful waterfront, Mayor Alex Nuttall officially announced that the airshow will be returning to Kempenfelt Bay on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16.
"Fun and free programming will be taking place all weekend long starting on Friday, June 14. Attractions include the Downtown Barrie BIA's first Open Air Dunlop of the season, CFB Borden's static displays, live music and free movie screening of Memphis Belle at Meridian Place, and an incredible drone show," commented Mayor Alex Nuttall. "The economic impact major events like the Barrie Airshow have on our community is massive and we are honoured to be hosting the event once again."
Iconic Canadian aircraft and demonstration teams will be taking to the skies including the Canadian Forces Snowbirds (431 Air Demonstration Squadron), the CF-18 Demonstration Team, the Canadian Armed Forces SkyHawks Parachute Team, and the CH-146 Griffon helicopter. More performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
With 2024 marking the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force and CFB Borden being the birthplace of Canada’s Air Force, delivering a 2024 Airshow in Barrie is expected to attract an even larger tourism audience of enthusiasts and families from across Canada.
