An early morning incident believed to be an attempted carjacking at a gas station in Barrie is under investigation by Barrie Police.

Just after 6 a.m., police were alerted to the incident at a gas station at the intersection of Anne Street and Dunlop Street.

A suspect was reportedly attempting to carjack a vehicle parked at the pumps before officers chased the suspect on foot and later apprehending them.

Paramedics eventually responded to the scene, and police confirmed one person was taken to hopsital.

A perimeter under the station's canopy was taped off by officers and yellow cones were placed marking the scene. The white Volkswagen remains a focus, it appears.

Barrie Police confirmed there is an ongoing investigation and the incident is isolated.

More information is expected from Barrie Police as details are confirmed.
