The Barrie Baycats have place left-handed pitcher Juan Mejia on the injured list after he missed the last three weeks with arm trouble, the team says.
The Dominican pitcher was sent home on Thursday, effectively ending his tenure with the team for the 2026 season.
Mejia had reportedly experienced tightness in his throwing shoulder going back to a start in Toronto on Jun. 19. He pitched just three innings in that game, allowing three earned runs, before bowing out in favour of the bullpen.
He made one more start, a strong five-inning outing against Brantford on Jun. 25, but had not appeared in a game since. The team says his arm had not gotten better since that last start.
Despite that outing, the CBL website says the move is retroactive to Jun. 24, which appears to be an error.
In six appearances (five starts) this season, Mejia was above league average in most statistical categories, despite an 0-3 record. His 3.68 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 29.1 innings rank well above the league averages of 6.08 and 1.65, respectively. He also totaled 32 strikeouts and 10 walks during his tenure.
Barrie went 2-4 when Mejjia started, but as of the move, sits tied atop the CBL standings at 17-9.
He's just the second player the Baycats have let go during the 2026 season after utility man Justin Groves was released on Jun. 14.
Mejia's CBL rights remain wirth the Baycats, meaning any team looking to sign him will have to trade for him first.
Barrie has four other players on its inactive list: outfielders Tristan Clarke and Willy Garcia, and right-handed pitchers Chris Nagorski and Cesar Rosado.
