Barrie Baycats to kick off the 2021 season in June

The Baycats will look for their 7th IBL title in 2021

The Barrie Baycats announced on Thursday they’ll be taking to the field in 2021 – just a little bit later than usual. The Intercounty Baseball League has set a target date of June 1 to begin its season. The IBL usually gets the season underway in mid-May.

The league is sticking with its traditional 36-game schedule, which means an IBL champion will be crowned closer to the end of September as opposed to the usual Labour Day weekend. Final tweaks are being made to the schedule now, and the Baycats should announce their schedule in the coming days.

“We are hoping that the vaccination rollout plans will show positive effects by early June. Our Baycats organization will ensure the safety of fans by following proper protocols set by the City, League and Regional Health Administrations when at Coates stadium,” said Baycats president David Mills, “We are all anxious to resume Baycats baseball.”

The last time The Baycats took to the field, in 2019, they won the IBL championship for a record 6th straight time.
