News Release - City of Barrie

Barrie businesses/institutions must register to receive the current level of curbside waste collection service from the City, with the introduction of a new waste collection contract on May 1, 2024.

The City will continue to offer its current level of curbside collection service to eligible businesses/institutions, pending the business registers to receive these services and meets the waste limits. Businesses must register by April 15, 2024 to avoid interruption in collection.

If a business/institution has not registered with the City by April 15, they can register later, but the application must be completed by the 15th day of the month for collection to start at the beginning of the following month (i.e. if the application is completed between April 16 and May 15, 2024, collection services will start on June 1, 2024).

The registration application can be accessed online via barrie.ca/CurbsideCollectionChangesFor those that prefer to complete the application in person or over the phone, they can visit Service Barrie (1st floor, City Hall; 70 Collier Street), or call Service Barrie at 705-726-4242. An email address is required to register. Once registered, businesses will receive service until September 7, 2025.

The City is transitioning to automated cart collection on September 8, 2025 and more details will be provided to businesses about how this change will impact them. The collection service model for businesses beyond September 7, 2025 is currently being developed and more information will be shared when available.

More information on eligibility requirements for Barrie businesses, waste limits and application details can be found via barrie.ca/CurbsideCollectionChanges.
