Barrie man charged in Collingwood restaurant robbery

A 37-year-old Barrie man has been charged after a robbery at a Collingwood restaurant on Wednesday evening.

Around 7:50 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police say they were contacted about a man with his face disguised who entered a restaurant on Hurontairo Street armed with an edged weapon and demanded cash while threatening the staff.

The suspect took money from the register and fled on foot.

Officers with the assistance of the canine unit conducted a search and a man was nabbed a short distance away. Police said they also recovered money stolen from the register.

The man has been charged with:

·       Robbery with a weapon; and

·       Wear a disguise with Intent to Commit an indictable offence.

The accused is being held in custody for a bail hearing and will be in court at a future date.
