Hours after dealing former first-round pick Alexsandr Sementsov to the Brantford Bulldogs on Wednesday, the Barrie Colts used the draft pick acquired in that deal to add an offensive prospect.
The Colts sent the 2028 fifth-round selection received from Brantford to the Niagara IceDogs in exchange for right winger Michael Tang. The 16-year-old Toronto native, who holds dual Canadian-American citizenship, was selected by the IceDogs in the third round (78th overall) of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.
The six-foot, 165-pound winger spent last season with the USHL’s Madison Capitals, recording nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points in 57 games as a rookie.
In his last minor hockey season with the U16AAA Toronto Titans in the GTHL, Tang had 20 goals and 43 points in 36 games. He also posted three goals and six assists for nine points in six OHL Cup games in 2025.
“He’s an offensive talent,” said Barrie general manager Marty Williamson. “He played in the USHL last year, and we’re excited to get him. He fits our age group as an ’08, and offence was one of the holes we felt we had. We thought Sementsov would fill it, but we believe Michael is a better fit for our team.”
