Barrie Colts get a break on the rent at Sadlon Arena as they continue to cook up hot meals for essential workers

Rent relief request expected to be rubberstamped at next meeting of council

The city of Barrie has given a tentative nod to allowing the Barrie Colts some rent relief for now.

City Hall gave approval Monday to extending facility, advertising, and concession payment due dates another sixty days for anything due at end of next month.

Keeping Up With The Colts
The Barrie Colts announced the cancellation of the remainder of the season on March 18th

The Colts’ parent company, Horsepower Sports and Entertainment Group, is also getting a reduction of $4000 on next month’s rent, representing the staff time that wasn’t required due to the cancellation of the OHL season.

A staff report presented to councillors on Monday night indicated the Colts have been doing good things with the facility despite not being on the ice. “Horsepower Sports and Entertainment Group Inc. has utilized the kitchen areas for cooking and then generously distributed the prepared food to the Barrie Food Bank, Salvation Army, the Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), and the David Busby Centre.” About 800 meals a day have been prepared for those organizations.
