Sources tell Barrie 360 that the Ontario Hockey League is investigating an accusation that a bounty was placed on Barrie Colts defenceman Kashawn Aitcheson by the Sudbury Wolves.
The alleged bounty stems from an incident that occurred during a Barrie and Sudbury game back on Jan. 18 at Sadlon Arena.
With just 4:23 remaining in the contest, Aitcheson delivered a hit on Wolves forward Nathan Villeneuve. No penalty was called on the play. Sudbury blueliner Nolan Collins then instigated a fight with Aitcheson.
The two Central Division rivals would meet three days later in Sudbury, but the Colts decided not to dress Aitcheson after sources say the team learned of a bounty being put on the player.
Barrie 360 reached out to the Colts, but the organization would not comment and referred the matter to the league.
Attempts to reach the Ontario Hockey League and Wolves for comment were unsuccessful.
The two teams have played five times already this season and have three head-to-head games remaining on the schedule. The next contest between the Colts and Wolves is next Wednesday night, Feb. 28 in Sudbury.
