Work on the Duckworth Street construction project starts up again next week

The City of Barrie’s Duckworth Street project will be restarting for the 2024 season on Monday, March 4.

The Duckworth Street construction project began in June 2023 and had a productive first year, with major improvements completed from Howard Crescent to Grove Street East, including the Grove Street intersection.

This season’s work will begin with storm sewer installations and roadwork north of Grove Street East toward Bell Farm Road. Traffic will be maintained on Duckworth Street, north of Grove Street, while work progresses with partial lane closures. Rose Street and Bernick Drive will be closed at various times for intersection improvements. Access for local residents and to local businesses will be maintained throughout construction.

This road construction project will reconstruct Duckworth Street from Bell Farm Road to St. Vincent Street, and also includes a new watermain on Grove Street from Duckworth Street to Nelson Street. The estimated completion date for the entire project is spring 2025.

The Duckworth Street work includes new watermain, sewer replacements, and right-of-way improvements including new sidewalks, new pavement, intersection upgrades, and road widening for bicycle lanes. The Grove Street work includes new watermain, pavement, and bicycle lanes.
