A John Street, Barrie resident took prudent action when an unfamiliar individual began aggressively banging on their front door just before 7:00 a.m. on Monday. Concerned for their safety, and suspecting that the man was intoxicated, the homeowner immediately contacted Barrie Police.
Officers say the man’s erratic and uncooperative behaviour escalated further. Police determined the 22-year-old was experiencing a high level of impairment and posed a risk to both the public and himself and, was arrested for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place.
Police say the incident highlights the importance of trusting instincts and prioritizing safety, especially when dealing with unknown individuals exhibiting unpredictable behaviour. Barrie Police praised the homeowner for handling the situation with care, “The resident… did the right thing by keeping their door locked and not confronting the male. These two decisions allowed police to deescalate the situation and safely take the male into custody without incident.”
No injuries were reported, and the situation was resolved without further complications.
