Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall stopped by this morning to announce the musical acts for this year's Downtown Countdown, starting with the kids' performers, "Sonshine and Broccoli, there's going to be face-painting, and play tables, tons of fun for all the families ... and for the adults in the evening ... Big Wreck."
Barrie band The Faculty will also take the stage.
Since 1998, the Downtown Countdown has brought thousands from near and far together to celebrate the arrival of the new year at Barrie City Hall. The festivities will include skating, family activities, roaming buskers, and two fireworks shows – the first following the children’s show for the early revellers and the second at midnight.
Barrie Transit service will be free on New Year’s Eve starting at 5 p.m., and all routes will operate until 3 a.m. Extended schedules can be found on MyRide.
