Pickup truck hauling extremely heavy load pulled over on Blake St. on Oct. 27, 2026.

A pickup truck carrying an extremely heavy load of cement bags has led to charges against a 45-year-old driver in Barrie.

An off-duty officer spotted the truck heading toward downtown on Tuesday. The weight made it difficult for the vehicle to stay in its lane.

Police say the rear tires were visibly bulging, with the sidewalls rubbing against the pavement.

Officers stopped the vehicle on Blake Street, concerned that the tires could blow out. They escorted the driver safely to his destination, which was only minutes away.

The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with operating an unsafe vehicle and having improper tires.

Police are reminding drivers to know their vehicle's weight limits, warning that overloaded vehicles can affect steering, handling and braking, putting everyone on the road at risk.
