Barrie Families Unite to launch “12 Days of Giving” campaign

Encourages the community to help anyway they can

It’s a new spin on the advent calendar. Barrie Families Unite (BFU), a non-profit agency in Barrie, launches its “12 Days of Giving” campaign on December 1.

They’re encouraging people to add one item to a box or gift bag every day for 12 days. Items include peanut butter, shampoo, lunch snacks, and underwear. Once filled, the donations can be dropped off at any BMO branch in Barrie and will be used to fill the shelves for BFU.

The average box costs about $75 to put together. However, founder Nikki Glahn says there’s another option that won’t cost a thing.

A second list includes doing a good deed like giving compliments and volunteering your time or services. “We didn’t want to limit anybody when it comes to giving back to the community,” Glahn adds. This ensures everybody can partake in the campaign.

The final day to drop off the boxes is December 20. Once completed, anyone who donated a package will be entered into a draw for a Georgian Mall gift card.
