Barrie Fire Call Edgehill Drive-Area Fire “Accidental But Preventable”

Frozen equipment made it challenging for crews.

Smoking might be behind a fire in Barrie.

Barrie Fire responded to the area of Edgehill Drive near Pringle Drive Monday afternoon to reports of a structure fire.

The extreme cold made it difficult for crews to do their job with frozen equipment, but the blaze was brought under control and there were no injuries.

While a cause has not been determined, investigators believe careless smoking caused this fire, calling it “accidental but preventable” and pegging the damage between 60-80 thousand dollars. There was extensive smoke and content damage to the home.

While the basement tenants were able to get back into their place by Monday evening, Barrie Fire’s Samantha Hoffman tells us the ground floor residents have been displaced for a time.
