Barrie Fire says backyard burns can go ahead, despite restrictions from the province

Permit must be obtained, bylaws must be followed

With the weather becoming warm enough to spend prolonged periods outside in the evening, many residents’ thoughts are turning to backyard fires.

Good news, you can still have one, despite a provincial emergency order restricting many other activities, so long as you follow the right steps.

Barrie Fire And Emergency Services says backyard fires are permitted in the City of Barrie currently, as there is no burn ban in place. The Fire Service says residents must follow the city’s burning bylaw and are required to obtain a permit first.

Fire permits can be obtained online here.
