Barrie firefighters tackle garage blaze in the south end

All six occupants escaped safely

Barrie firefighters say six people are safe after a garage fire at a home in the south end of town on Tuesday morning.

Ed Davis, deputy chief for Barrie Fire and Emergency Services, told Barrie 360 the call came in around 9:30 a.m., and they responded to the location on Country Lane.

He says the six occupants included extended family that was visiting - no injuries were reported.

He added that the cause of the fire is still being determined by officials.

"The heat was so intense that it melted everything so it's kind of hard to determine, but they're still working on it, said Davis. "[It will] probably go down as undetermined just because of the amount of refuse or debris in the structure itself."

The damage total is unknown, as well.
