A man is up on drug charges after a "proactive foot patrol" at a residential complex on North Street by Barrie police, according to officials.

Peter Leon, communications coordinator with the Barrie Police Service, said in a news release that officers conducted the patrol this morning around 3 a.m.

"They came upon a male who did not live there," Leon said.

He says the suspect "was found to be in possession of cocaine and was arrested for Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance and Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking."

The 48-year-old was released with a future court date.
