Barrie residents’ hangtag waterfront parking passes will expire at the end of the year, and residents are encouraged to replace their hangtag pass with a free digital permit to continue to park for free at select waterfront locations.
Residents can apply anytime, anywhere for a digital waterfront parking permit through the HotSpot app or website (instructions available at barrie.ca/WaterfrontParking); however residents who prefer to apply in person can drop by an information session at select City facilities. At the sessions, staff will support residents in applying for their digital waterfront parking permit in person, including walking them through the application process, validating their documents and helping them to apply. Sessions will be offered at the following times and locations:
- Monday, December 11, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at East Bayfield Community Centre (main entrance lobby)
- Tuesday, December 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Parkview Centre (main entrance)
- Wednesday, December 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Peggy Hill Team Community Centre (main entrance lobby)
- Thursday, December 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Allandale Recreation Centre (upper lobby)
Residents are reminded to bring the following items with them to the sessions:
- Vehicle ownership document (the green permit you get when your vehicle is registered with ServiceOntario) for each licence plate you are registering for, ensuring the owner’s name, licence plate number and address are visible;
- Proof of address (examples: utility or water bill from within the last 60 days, lease agreement, cell phone bill from within the last 60 days, tax bill from the current year, driver's licence).
If residents cannot make one of the in-person sessions, they can bring the required documentation to Service Barrie (City Hall, 70 Collier Street), Allandale Recreation Centre (190 Bayview Drive), Peggy Hill Team Community Centre (171 Mapleton Avenue), East Bayfield Community Centre (80 Livingstone Street East) or Parkview Centre (189 Blake Street), where City staff will validate and set them up in HotSpot. Applications cannot be processed over phone or email.
Once their permit is active, residents can enjoy free parking at the applicable waterfront areas. Your licence plate acts as your digital permit. Once your vehicle is registered, you don’t need to display or bring anything with you when you visit the waterfront.
