After making a number of inquiries, police say a Barrie homeowner came to the conclusion they were the victim of a 'porch pirate.'
Police say a resident had a delivery made to their south-end home from an online retailer while they were away. When they returned home, the item was missing. The theft was reported to police on Monday, but it's believed to have happened sometime late last week.
While police have not seen an increase in these types of thefts, they say it is worth reminding the public that these are crimes of opportunity.
"Homeowners are encouraged to protect what is believed delivered to your home and if possible, have a neighbour pickup your parcel and keep it safe until you return home and are able to retrieve it," police said in a media release.
Other options that exist include the installation of home security cameras, a doorbell camera and the purchase and use of a lockable package delivery box that is specifically designed and meant for securing any home delivery.
