This is not something anyone wants to come home to.

Police say a Barrie resident arrived at their home shortly after 5 p.m. on Tuesday to discover there had been a break-and-enter, the front door was wide open, and rooms in the house had been ransacked.

The home is located in the area of Yonge Street and Mapleview Drive East.

Police say the homeowner had been gone since nine in the morning.

Based on what was stolen, police believe more than one person was likely involved.

An estimated $30,000 in money and items were taken, according to police, including a 42-inch television, an electronic device, and jewelry.

Investigators have been checking nearby homes to see if the thieves were captured on home security systems.
