A 47-year-old man is dead following a confrontation between a group of individuals in downtown Barrie.

Police say the incident is believed to have taken place just prior to 8:20 Monday morning near 24 Collier Street.

Investigators say the man made his way to a Dunlop Street East diner where he collapsed. After initial treatment by paramedics, he was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No arrest has been made, but police say they don't believe there is a threat to public safety.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the violent interaction, or may have been driving in the area and has dash cam video, to contact them at 705-725-7025.

A post-mortem will be done on the victim to determine the cause of death.
