Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie has declared its second outbreak, nine days after its first.
RVH confirmed its second outbreak early Monday evening, in the Transitional Care Unit (TCU).
“We are monitoring this situation carefully and taking all necessary action to ensure the safety of our patients, staff and physicians,” says Janice Skot RVH president and CEO. “A full investigation is under way to conduct contact tracing and we have implemented our Outbreak Management Protocol which includes enhanced cleaning, surveillance, education and frequent communication to patients. As a further precaution, all staff who have recently provided care on the unit will be tested.”
RVH declared its first outbreak on January 9, in its Integrated Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit. Ten patients within the unit having tested positive, while the hospital reports three patient deaths are associated with this outbreak. There are also 18 healthcare workers identified as part of the outbreak.
