Two Barrie men charged in human trafficking investigation

Arrests made following seven-month investigation

Just days after the OPP and 20 other police services announced the launch of the Joint Forces Strategy to combat human trafficking, charges have been laid against two Barrie men.

Between May and December of this year, OPP and Barrie Police received information about a person trafficking several females in Simcoe County for sexual services. An investigation identified a suspect and a search warrant was executed at a property in Barrie. Police seized suspected fentanyl worth more than $22,000 and electronic devices. An additional suspect was also arrested.

As a result, a 33-year-old is facing drug trafficking charges, and a 43-year-old has been charged with trafficking in persons and other related offences.

It is believed that there are additional victims. Victims can contact BPS Detective Contable Michelle Jansen at 705-725-7025, extension 2166. Anyone with information regarding this investigation should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or BPS at 705-725-7025. Information on the IJFS can be found at opp.ca/news/#/mediakit.
