
Access to the Downtown Branch of the Barrie Public Library will be affected by a major road closure on Owen Street starting Friday, June 6, 2025.
What’s happening?
The City of Barrie is closing Owen Street between McDonald Street and Collier Street, including the intersection of Worsley and Owen, as part of ongoing work for the Sophia Trunk Storm Sewers project.

The closure is expected to last until October 2025.
Will the library be open?
Yes, the Downtown Library will remain open throughout the construction period.
What’s affected?
- Drive-up access to the book return and Express Pick-up window will not be possible. These services will still be available via walk-up access.
- The McDonald Street parking lot remains open.
- Sidewalks along Owen Street will also stay open for pedestrian access.

New express parking option
To help visitors quickly drop off or pick up items:
- The City will be adding free 5-minute ‘Express’ parking spots nearby.
- These spots are ideal for quick trips to the book drop or Express Pick-up window.
