South Simcoe Police - SNOW

A Barrie man is facing numerous charges after police say he assaulted an officer in Alcona.

On Sunday, May 1, at approximately 10 p.m., South Simcoe Police were called to a store in the area of Jans Boulevard and Innisfil Beach Road for a reported theft.

Once on scene, officers say they learned that a man was refused service because he was intoxicated. Police say he left the store without paying for his alcohol and threatened store employees.

According to police, they attempted to place the man in custody - he resisted arrest and one officer was assaulted.

The officer was treated in hospital and released.

As a result, a 34-year-old Barrie man was charged with assaulting an officer, assault with intent to resist arrest, uttering threats, causing a disturbance, theft under $5,000, and mischief under $5,000.

He was released with a future court date.
