Suspect turns himself in after two separate assaults: Barrie police

A Barrie man turned himself over to police following two separate assaults near Bayview Drive and Little Avenue.

Barrie police were called to the area on Monday just before 11:00 a.m. for a report of an assault in progress.

"Upon arrival at the scene, police learned that the person responsible had just left the area, as a passenger, in a motor vehicle that sped off southbound on Bayview Drive at a high rate of speed.," officers wrote in a media release Tuesday morning.

"What is odd about this incident though, is that the suspect returned after the first assault a few moments later and accused the victim of stealing his phone. It was at this time that a second altercation took place with a second victim, who was also assaulted."

After receiving information from witnesses, police say they were able to identify "who was responsible for these unprovoked assaults."

Later in the day, around 6:00 p.m., a 27-year-old man turned himself in.

He is up on the following charges:

  • Assault (3 counts)
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Uttering Threats.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in January.
