Barrie Police say a 66-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after a pickup truck was seen driving across a homeowner's lawn on Janine Street, in the area of Cundles Road East.
Police say officers were told the driver was seen getting out of the vehicle with a drink in his hand.
When police responded around 7:45 Monday night, they found the driver back in the truck, which was parked on the road. Officers say they detected a strong smell of alcohol and found several open alcohol cans inside the vehicle.
The driver was taken to police headquarters, where breath tests showed he was nearly twice the legal alcohol limit.
The Barrie man was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired 80 plus.
The accused was also charged with having a speed measuring warning device in his vehicle, which is prohibited under the Highway Traffic Act, and can carry a $140 fine and three demerit points if convicted.
