A 42-year-old Barrie man faces numerous charges following a lengthy OPP investigation into thefts from vehicles.

Police say the thefts began in May 2020 and continued until August this year in Collingwood, Huronia West, Midland, Caledon, Orillia, Muskoka, and Duffern County.

OPP say the suspect gained access to the vehicles parked at trailheads in remote areas by smashing a window and then making off with money and personal items. As well, police say damage to the vehicles was in the thousands of dollars.

The suspect is up on 10 charges of mischief under $5,000, seven counts of theft from a motor vehicle, as well as one count of failing to comply with probation.

Investigators believe there might be more thefts from vehicles at trail parking lots.

If you wish to report such an incident, which took place between July 13, 2022, and September 4, 2022, please contact the Community Street Crimes Unit of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP at 705-445-4321.
