Provincial police say a 55-year-old Barrie man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Highway 401 in Kitchener.

It happened in the westbound lanes approaching Homer Watson Boulevard around 7:45 Monday morning.

In a tweet, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said police believe there was a slowdown of traffic that may have been the result of reports of a bicyclist that was riding his bicycle on Highway 401 in that area.

"We don't believe the motorcyclist was involved in a collision with any other vehicle."

Police say the driver was ejected from his motorcycle as he lost control and hit the roadway resulting in fatal injuries.

Anyone who witnessed what happened or has dashcam video is asked to contact Cambridge OPP at 519-655-0150.
