Barrie Minor Hockey Association, Barrie Women’s Hockey Association suspends programming

Hockey leagues hit the pause button due to COVID-19

The good old hockey game is being put on ice by the Barrie Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) and the Barrie Women’s Hockey Association(BWHA).

According to a statement on the BMHA website, all programming will be halted effective Monday, Dec. 14 when Simcoe Muskoka moves into the COVID-19 red zone.

All programming this weekend will continue as scheduled, but as is protocol, players who feel unwell are asked not to attend.

“This season has been filled with struggles, but because of the great volunteers and the understanding of our members we have been able to deliver a safe and enjoyable program, while meeting all the protocols put in place, and for this we thank you,” reads the statement on the BMHA website.

The BWHA has also hit the pause button on the fall season.

“Based on the increased case numbers being reported by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and a recent increase in frequency of cases within our hockey setting, we believe the time has come to hit the pause button on our hockey activities, for now,” according to a statement on the organization’s website.

The BWHA says all hockey program is cancelled through Dec. 31, 2020.

The BMHA says programming will resume when it is safe to do so. The BMHA says the intent is to make up the lost games and practices for all teams.
