Barrie police: Outstanding suspect in catwalk shooting arrested

Barrie police say a wanted suspect in relation to a shooting on the catwalk between Leacock Drive and Kipling Place has been arrested.

On Saturday, April 22, around 10:30 p.m., officers received reports of the shooting. A 45-year-old Barrie man was located and had sustained life-threatening injuries after being shot multiple times.

Police say an investigation led to the arrests of three people - two Orillia men aged 23 and 21 and a 29-year-old Barrie woman - in the hours and days that followed the incident. They were charged with attempting to commit murder and discharging a firearm with intent.

Last Friday, April 28, a 21-year-old man was identified as an outstanding suspect being sought.

On Friday, around 4:00 p.m., the suspect was arrested by officers at a King Street West address in Hamilton.

He was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where he remains in custody pending a bail hearing today.

He faces the following charges:

  • Attempt to commit murder
  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Aggravated assault
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Assault with a weapon
