Barrie police locate cocaine and fentanyl after stopping teen cyclist

Police say the teen refused to provide his legal name

A teen cyclist is up on multiple charges after being stopped by Barrie police, who then located drugs including cocaine and fentanyl.

On Thursday, around 9:00 p.m., an officer was on patrol in the downtown area when the teen was seen riding on the sidewalk of Dunlop Street West.

Police say he was stopped regarding a by-law infraction and, at that time, other infractions under the Highway Traffic Act regarding his bicycle.

“When the officer sought to confirm the identity of the teen, he was given a number of opportunities to provide his legal name, but he refused to do so and was arrested for Obstruct Peace Officer,” police stated in a release. “While being taken into custody, a large amount of Canadian currency was located on the teen.”

He was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where, according to officers, a quantity of suspected cocaine and fentanyl was found within his clothing.

The 16-year-old of no fixed address faces the following charges:  

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid/Fentanyl
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Opioid/Fentanyl
  • Breach of Recognizance
  • and one charge under the Highway Traffic Act for not having required equipment on a bicycle

He was held for a video bail hearing scheduled for Friday.
