Barrie police have charged two people with drug and weapon offences after officers entered into a Liquor Licence Act investigation on Tuesday night that involved people in a motor vehicle in a hotel parking lot on Hart Drive.
"Shortly after removing the occupants from the motor vehicle, a quantity of suspected cocaine was located. The male driver and female passenger were placed under arrest for Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (Cocaine) and once the search of the motor vehicle continued, a semi-automatic firearm and high-capacity magazine that contained .40 calibre ammunition was located," police stated in Thursday news release.
A 30-year-old man from Scarborough and a 20-year-old Toronto woman were charged with:
- possession of cocaine
- unauthorized possession and careless storage of an registered firearm with a defaced serial number.
Both individuals were remanded into custody and are scheduled to have a bail hearing at a future date.
