The Barrie Police Services Board is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with the Barrie Police Association on a new contract. The five-year contract will be retroactive to January 1, 2024, and conclude on December 31, 2028.
The agreement with the Association, which represents both Uniform and Civilian members of the Barrie Police Service, was reached in late 2023 and recently ratified by the members of the Association. The previous 5-year contract expired on December 31, 2023.
The contract will provide wage increases that equate to an average increase of 3.5 per cent annually, an increase in wellness supports, and provides a small premium that will be paid to front-line officers who work 12-hour rotating shifts. Provisions within the collective agreement will allow the Service the ability to explore expanding the use of Special Constables throughout our community, including our downtown core and in neighbourhoods and areas that require specialized community engagement.
Barrie Police Services Board Chair Greg Ferguson states “this negotiation process with the Executive of the Barrie Police Association and our Police Services Board was successful from the outset and the outcome will ensure the continued safety and security of our community for years to come.” Ferguson further adds “this contract will help to attract people to a career in policing and will help in the recruitment of new Uniform and Civilian members to our Service – it really is a win-win situation for our community and for those who call Barrie home”.

The contract will certainly assist with retention of our current members and the attraction of new members to this exceptional profession.”
