A collision between a Barrie police cruiser and a pedestrian on Saturday morning led to charges on an 18-year-old from the city.

The incident happened at Essa Road and Gowan Street just after 8 a.m., according to a news release from the Barrie Police Service.

Peter Leon, communications coordinator, says the pedestrian was exiting a transit bus at the time.

"From the investigation that followed, by the Barrie Police Traffic Unit, it was determined that a female exited the City of Barrie transit bus and ran into the path of a fully marked Barrie Police vehicle as it travelled westbound on Essa Rd," Leon stated.

"The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and the intersection remained closed until just before noon-hour to allow for the investigation of this collision to safely take place."

Leon says she has been charged with:

  • Pedestrian fail to use crosswalk.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or was travelling in the area at the time to contact Detective Constable Dan Steele at dsteele@barriepolice.ca.
