The Barrie Police Services Board announced today, that after 35 years in policing, Barrie Police Service Deputy Chief R. Wyllie Allan has announced his upcoming retirement.
“I thank Deputy Chief Wyllie Allan for his years of dedicated service to our organization and the policing profession in general,” said Barrie Police Services Board Chair Greg Ferguson. “The Barrie Police Services Board is thankful for the leadership and professionalism that Deputy Chief Allan has exhibited throughout his career. We know his contributions have made a positive impact on our community.”
“Throughout his career with the Barrie Police Service, Deputy Chief Allan has demonstrated a passion for the policing profession, and dedication to our community and our Service,” said Barrie Police Chief Rich Johnston. “We thank him for his service and wish him well in his retirement.”
Deputy Chief Allan’s policing career began with the Toronto Police Service in 1989 before joining the Barrie Police Service in May of 2000. In Barrie, Deputy Chief Allan worked in various roles, including Courts, Media, the downtown High Enforcement Action Team – HEAT, Communications, Corporate Support, Professional Standards, and Executive Services.
A graduate of the Rotman School of Business - Police Leadership Program, Deputy Chief Allan is a Critical Incident Commander, a designated Hearing Officer under the Police Services Act, and the 2005 National Police Curling champion.
Deputy Chief Allan received his master’s degree in public safety from Wilfrid Laurier University in June 2023. In 2019, he achieved his Certified Municipal Manager Police Professional accreditation. Deputy Chief Allan is also the recipient of the Governor General Exemplary Service 20-year Medal and 30-year Bar in recognition of his loyal meritorious service to law enforcement in Canada.
“As I reflect upon over 35 years of policing, I have been privileged to have been given the opportunity to do a lot of extraordinary things and to work with so many amazing people at the Service, this community, and the broader police profession,” said Deputy Chief Allan. “It is the people I will miss as I explore new opportunities presented by retirement. Please continue to support those that serve and protect, whether civilian or sworn, out there day and night, rain or shine, in pursuit of relentless, dedicated service.”
The Barrie Police Service wishes Deputy Chief Allan all the best in his retirement. An announcement of a new Deputy Chief will be made in the near future.
