A man of no fixed address is up on impaired and drug-related charges after police received reports of a suspected impaired driver who was asleep behind the wheel in the parking lot of a Barrie View Drive restaurant.
Barrie police were notified on Tuesday morning around 6.
Officers located the vehicle and say the driver’s door was open, keys were in the ignition, and the engine was running.
"The driver was awakened by police and was placed under arrest for impaired driving based upon observations made by the responding officers," police stated in a release.
The 39-year-old was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where it was determined that he was impaired by drugs.
Police say they also found he was prohibited from driving, was using a plate not authorized for the vehicle, had a quantity of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine in his possession, and was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Barrie court on June 14.
