Barrie police investigating after equipment stolen from construction site

Three pieces of equipment were taken, each valued at $20,000
Stolen construction equipment - Barrie police

Barrie police are investigating after reported thefts of three pieces of construction equipment from a site in the city's south end.

On Tuesday, officers attended the active site at Mapleview Drive East and Madeline Drive.

A Wacker diesel 28”,1000 lb reversible plate tamper - valued at over $20,000 - was taken.

Police say it was likely stolen sometime between Wednesday, May 31 and Thursday, June 1, from the area of Madelaine Drive and Copperhill Heights.

"Given the size and weight of the tamper, a piece of equipment capable of lifting, along with a truck or trailer, would have been required," police stated in a release. "And likely multiple persons would have been necessary to carry out the theft."

Added to this, two other tampers - each again valued at $20,000 - were also stolen from the same job site between Friday, May 25, and Monday, May 29.

Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to call Barrie police at 705-725-7025, extension 2634, or submit a web tip at: https://www.crimestopperssdm.com/submit-web-tip/.
