Barrie Police are investigating what is being considered a suspicious death after a 64-year-old man was found lying unconscious outside a downtown apartment building.
Emergency crews were called to an alley beside a building in the area of Worsley Street and Poyntz Street just after 9 a.m. Thursday. The man was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
"His injuries appear to be consistent with a fall," police said in a news release.
Investigators have been canvassing the area for surveillance video and information, and say the man has been visiting someone living in the building who has not yet been located.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today at the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto.
