An officer from Barrie Police was on patrol Monday morning when they observed an argument involving two people, which eventually led to an arrest for theft.

At approximately 10:40 a.m. Monday, Barrie Police observed an argument at Bayfield St. and Wellington St. involving a man and the employee of a nearby convenience store in the store's parking lot.

The officer gathered that the man had made left the store with a quantity of items without paying.

Once the information was confirmed, the officer arrested the man, a 26-year-old, for theft under $5,000. The stolen items were valued at just over $100 and were all returned.

Later, at Barrie Police headquarters, investigators learned and confirmed that the man had falsely identified himself, leading to an extra charge of obstructing police.

A bail hearing for the accused is set to take place today by video.
