
A Barrie woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 10-year-old child.
In a news release on Tuesday, Barrie police said the child was found dead after officers were called to a well-being check on Dec. 31. When officers arrived at the townhouse complex, located at 177 Bayview Drive near Little Avenue, at around 3 p.m., the 47-year-old woman was found inside one of the units and taken to a local hospital.

"Once she was cleared medically, investigators laid the charge on Tuesday, January 6, and she was remanded into custody," police stated in the news release.
Officers from the Major Crime Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit are continuing their investigation.
Police said that due to the nature of the incident and to respect the privacy of the family involved, updates will only be provided as the investigation permits.
